“The word “deficit” is a completely inaccurate word to describe someone with ADHD. The opposite is true!
Those of us with ADHD have plenty of attention. There is no “deficit” or lack of attention!
When you have ADHD, your attention is like these two kinds of light:
* a floodlight, taking in everything around you, all at once,
— OR —
* a spotlight, zooming in on something that has engaged you because it is one (or more) of these:
— interesting
— novel / new
— urgent
Both kinds of light — your types of attention — have both upsides and downsides. But both kinds are useful!”
