ADHD Hyperfocus as ‘Flow’ or ‘Being in the Zone’
What if the HYPERFOCUS, that is part of ADHD, is the SAME THINGS as the state of “flow,” or “being in the zone”? 🤔
In the positive psychology book “Flow, The Psychology of Optimal Experience” by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, flow is described as:
“a state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.”
Pick One to Support Yourself
* Ease and Grace
* Compassionate Curiosity
* One thing at a time
* What’s the tiniest step I can take?
These are all ways you can support yourself as someone with ADHD.
With genuine support
— from people who understand ADHD —
the more you can be the amazing unique soul you are.
YOU Matter
What to do with a season of too-muchness for someone with ADHD?
You already have a million thoughts zooming inside your head. The addition of this season can blow out your coping circuits! ⚡️
Go against the flow of what’s around you (unless you find that energizing and sustainable for you!)
ADHD Is NOT an “Attention Deficit”
The label for ADHD has not yet caught up with the research and understanding that we now have. It is horribly misnamed!
If anything, you have way too much attention — that goes to everything.
You Are Amazing!
You are AMAZING. Truly, you ARE! However, if “I’m not that bad” is as much as you can manage right now, please stop for a moment and find a statement that does not have a “not” in it. Our brains disregard those negatives and tend to focus on the rest of the sentence. Hence, “I’m […]
Gratitude
As I’ve struggled with writing three different articles over the past few weeks and not yet published a single thing, it finally occurred to me to write about something that I am so absolutely familiar with that I would have to completely snuff it out with perfectionism for it not to get published! So, with […]
The Simplest Things Are The Most Profound
A sunrise or a sunset. Happens every day, doesn’t it? And until we really notice and become aware of that sunrise or sunset, it just seems like such a simple, almost mundane thing. The sun comes up. The sun goes down. The sun comes up. The sun goes down… But, what majesty! What beauty! How […]
“I Should…”
“I should _________________________.” How do you fill in the blank? Got a long list of stuff that you “should” do? Yeah, me too, but I am ever so careful to keep my awareness of that word on high! When you hear (or think), “You should (blah, blah, blah, blah, blah),” don’t you get the sense […]
Organizing Time
Otherwise known as time management, organizing time can be elusive. When it is all laid out and clearly defined, all is well — except when there is too much structure. Then there’s the temptation to scrap it all because it feels like there’s not enough space to breathe or move or think clearly! I know […]
Organizing … Part of Self-Care?
What do you think of organizing? More importantly, what do you think of yourself when it comes to organizing? This is an area that many of us either glorify or curse. We look at the homes of our organized friends and think, “Ah, what would it be like to live like that? My life would […]
